Forest Excursions

Once a week your tamariki will get the opportunity to go out and explore the forest. . . Dolamore park.
Accompanied by 2 teachers the tamariki will be able to explore and investigate the environment while there from bush walks to tent assembly each child will discover different ways to problem solve, use good thinking skills, turn taking, role modelling with their peers.

What ever the weather on the day the children and teachers will endeavour to go out. Wrapped up warm in their jackets hats and appropriate foot wear there will be plenty of fun to be had not matter what.

This opportunity gives the children the opportunity to learn outside the classroom they are familiar with here at Akoranga.

Forrest Trip 13/9/19

  • We had another fantastic morning for our forest trip today.  Heading out to the same wee spot as a fortnight ago, up the Croydon Bush road to the start of Grant's Knob track.
Peter reminded us the name of the 'paper tree' is a Fuchsia with the peeling bark that looks and feels like paper.   We did wonder what would be different after the wind of the last few days and the rain over night.  The track was a little muddy, but nothing that gum boots couldn't handle.
As we climbed the track we found the 'bouncing' branch again.  Tamariki each took a turn bouncing on it before we moved on to our destination at the top of a rise.

  • A fantastic view out towards Gore. We were greeted by the sight of the ewes in the paddock with their lambs playing.
Sitting quietly, I had just mentioned that the birds were not very near us that we could hear when some flew overhead. We were then able to see a tui, wood pigeon and hawk flying near by. The sounds of the birds in the trees was musical and loud.

  • It was a great morning with the drizzle coming in just as we returned to van to head on back to Akoranga. I know I look forward to next time with anticipation and I heard some of the tamariki saying they want to go back too. Peter always has knowledge to share with us and our local park is packed with great experiences waiting to be shared.
